Josh Brolin has had a pretty good year so far with his turns in W and Milk. Both were dramatic roles that demonstrated the man has chops, but he came pretty close to proving he also has guns. In a recent interview with MTV, Brolin brought up Terminator Salvation, saying, "I really liked the script though I hear that’s not what they filmed. The one I read was very interesting and dark. Ultimately though I didn’t think it felt right.”
Instead of Brolin as the Terminator we're going to get Sam Worthington, which kind of blows. Brolin might've been a really great addition to the cast, though if Bale's recent lack of enthusiasm says anything then he might have made the right choice. Brolin quotes a conversation he had with Christian Bale, who will play John Connor: “I saw [Bale] recently and I asked him how it was and he said, ‘it’s alright.’”
This does not mark an auspicious beginning to the buzz surronding Salvation. Brolin passed on the project and Bale is blase. It's not looking like this is going to be the Dark Knight of 2009. Quite frankly, I'm not sure anyone other than James Cameron could do a competent job of resurrecting the franchise, and he's got his next 20 years work cut out for him with Avatar.
