'Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard' Announced

D3Publisher announced last week that they’re working on an installment in the Matt Hazard line of satirical first person shooters entitled Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard. It's going to be released in the first quarter of 2009, and it's going to be hilarious.

Resurrecting 80s shoot-em-up icon, Matt Hazard (which will be my son's name) the series simultaneously takes pot shots at the genre while attempting to fit into it. If successful, you'll be able to think of this game being like the Shoot 'Em Up of the gaming world.

Didn't Duke Nuke 'Em do this you ask?  Shut up, I say.  Satirical first person shooting is kind of like heroin or democracy, there's no such thing as too much.

The game, like all modern FPSs, will have a duck-and-cover system, and (presumably) like the Max Payne franchise, it’ll have varied melee attacks. And, of course, an upgradeable arsenal of ridiculous lead launchers.

"Eat Lead parodies some of our fondest memories in classic gaming and pop culture, so gamers will have a laugh out loud experience every time they pick-up the controller,' said Pete Andrew, who does something at D3Publisher. We'll remember that, Pete."
