image

Andrea Pininfarina, the man behind the design firm Pininfarina, was killed in an auto accident this morning in the city of Trofarello, Italy. Pininfarina was struck by a 78-year-old motorist in a Ford Fiesta while riding a Vespa to the design firm’s research and design center in Cambiano.

Pininfarina has been behind some of the most breathtaking, iconic automotive designs in the last 50 years. The list includes the Ferrari Enzo, the Maserati GranTurismo, the Ferrari F40, Ferrari 328, the Acura NSX, and the Ferrari 275, among many, many others. His death comes just as the company is undergoing a dramatic restructuring. He is survived by his wife Cristiana, his two sons, and a daughter. Pininfarina was 51.
