I think Jon Stewart deserves recognition for exercising his right to free speech as a citizen in this clip. He says what he thinks and believes, something politicians could take a page from. His stance of not having a responsibility to the Amercian public to report the news in a neutral way, like the news agencies are supposed to do (because he is not a reporter but a comedian), is a refreshing example of what every tax paying citizen can aspire to. He has the balls to make fun of "Crossfire", admit he watches the show every day, and go on the show and call them on thier hypocracy. His show has become one of the most watched by young adults because he delivers his opinion, the absurdity of our Government "machine" and how it has ruined our World reputation, promotes people to think and decide for themselves without telling us to do it, and facts that "slip through the cracks" that help people form a more well-rounded opinion of politics instead of the "spin" of mainstream media. There I said it.

Jon Stewart is one of the smartest political comentators one tv these days. He says what he thinks, and hits the nail right on the head. Sometimes you have to make fun of someone in order to get them to see how silly they are being and Jon does that.... Oh and Crossfire has was taken off the air very shortly after this aired. Obviously CNN saw Jon's point

I know he never would, but if Jon ran for president, I'd vote for him, hell, I'd try to lead his campaign, Jon is very funny, he has a great spin on politics, and neo_t_virus and witchazel, well said both of you, thats a great summary of Mr. Stewart, and for those who haven't picked up his book, I higly suggest you do, it's great.

My biggest problem with all these shows has been that NO-ONE - not guests, not co-hosts - is allowed to finish a sentence, let alone complete a thought that takes more than one sentence. That is what has hurt American political discourse the most. Interrupting and crossing dialogue is great in a Robert Altman film, but in a debate, a discussion, or even a conversation-between-friends, it's RUDE. The speaker's point gets totally lost, if it even gets made at all, and everyone gets distracted by meaningless trivia and insults instead of real issues or -heaven forbid- solutions. Even the "Sunday Morning" shows have tended in this direction (theatre instead of debate) and the "Prime Time" political shows are mostly worthless as far as real discussion is concerned. I'd like to see Jon Stewart run a straight political discussion show - that would be on my "must-see-TV" list for sure!

Well done, Jon. The media is part of the political strategy. Check out the Libertarians and help stop maintaining the Status-quo that the Republicans and Democrats have been giving us for so long. They will never quite knock each other off so another party can take its place. The evil media is hurting us by creating a false reality and aiding the status quo set up by the GOP and Dems.

We need someone like Dick Cavett who lets people talk and doesn't interrupt them, just listens to what they want to say. The problem is we would find that most celebrities are boring. Imagine Paris Hilton on Dick Cavett for about an hour. Maybe Jon Stewart can start a show like that, he'd be great.

I think it's a problem when a comedian takes himself too seriously. Stewars would have made much more sense to me if his comments weren't so sarcastic, rude and just plain hypocritical. He'd also be a lot more entertaining to more people if he was equal in his comedy rhetoric to both the left and right. He will have a major problem now that democrats are taking over. - an independent

Stewart said that he looks for absurdity and comments on that. So, he will unfortunately have plenty to say regardless of which party is in office. Although there could not be an administration as bad as the one we have now, the one coming up will surely be full of fools, too --since that's all we sadly have in high places in government. Let's just hope they're a little more compassionate and a little less stupid.

Jon stewart has always been a obnoxious guy--every time I see him on TV he seems angry--passively and agressively---he makes fun of people in a hurtful way, with no art or inteligence to it--He should study Craig Ferguson because this man is truely talented

The message I get from Jon Stewart is that the divisive, Red vs. Blue mentality fostered by powerful interests (and perpetuated by Crossfire) makes it that much harder for Americans to work together to make our country what it could be and should be -- but only rarely IS.
Be you a rock-solid conservative or tie-dyed-in-the-wool progressive, if you genuinely follow the news, you have plenty of reasons to be disappointed in government and corporate leaders. Court jesters kept their jobs -- and their heads -- by knowing how to make people laugh without those who were being skewered by their humor "getting it." This isn't easy.
Almost everyone else is laughing, funnyman18 (ironic choice of username!), including people 3 times your age -- so go ahead and pretend that a "pseudo intellectual court jester" could have no influence on politics. Yep, just like Kin Hubbard, Will Rogers, and Mark Twain.
